The frequent cycles of wet and dry conditions (or just persistent wetness) cause the tubules in the hoof wall to absorb water and expand. When the water is released, the tubules contract, creating gaps between the tubules and the inter-tubular material. This continuous process leads to cracks and splits in the hoof walls. Mud and Muck is inevitable, but removing the bacteria ridden debris daily during the wet season will prevent abscesses and infection. Using a traditional hoof pick can further the cracking and damage soggy hooves. The HoofWand is made of a soft non-abrasive material used to remove the old mud and muk from the water logged hooves.
